James Fallows of the Atlantic magazine talks about his personal experience on Tiananmen Square in Beijing on the eve of the 30th anniversary in 2009. On June 3–4 troops with assault rifles and tanks inflicted thousands of casualties on unarmed civilians to block their entrance into the square.
