In the span of time when abortion was illegal, Dr. Mildred Hanson remembers receiving a phone call from a young woman asking to end her pregnancy. Dr. Mildred Hanson's first person account reveals how she was unable to get back in touch with the woman who later committed suicide. In 1973, Roe v. Wade, was a decision passed by the United States Supreme Court regarding abortion. The Court ruled 7–2 that a right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment extended to a woman's decision to have an abortion. Women could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without legal restriction, and with restrictions in later months, based on that right to privacy.
