John Travolta recalls presenting Barbara Stanwyck with a lifetime achievement Oscar in 1981. She was honored for her “superlative creativity and unique contribution to the art of screen acting.” Stanwyck appeared in 85 films, with her movie career brightest in the 1930s and 1940s, when she starring in films such as "Stella Dallas" and "Double Indemnity." Later in her career she moved into television with a series of celebrated roles, including starring in the Western "The Big Valley." She died in 1990. Travolta himself has twice been nominated, for his roles in "Saturday Night Fever" and "Pulp Fiction," but has never won a statuette.
