He describes the time he was captured by Hitler Youth after his plane was shot down. <p>Veteran Ian Welch recalls what happened to him while waiting to storm across the Diyala Bridge and seize Baghdad when an artillery round exploded behind him. Welch explains that he went on to complete his mission, as well as two more combat tours in Iraq, despite a list of symptoms that would later leave him completely disabled. Welch discusses how his life has changed since the explosion and thanks his girlfriend Katie is helping him cope. The Iraq War officially ended on December 15, 2011 with US Troops pulling out on December 18, though some remained until the end of the month.</p>

<p>Pearl Harbor survivor Thomas Crump, from Jeffersontown, KY, reminiscences about the day his life changed for the worst. In December of 1941, Crump never imagined that he would see anything like the devastation that occurred. He recalls burnt faces, smoking ships and countless, maimed bodies that would forever remain nameless. Crump urges Americans to always remember Pearl Harbor and to always be alert. The attack occurred on December 7, 1941 and America joined WWII the following day.</p>

<p>Herb Weatherwax, born in Honolulu on June 3rd 1917, discusses his first person account on the events at Pearl Harbor in 1941. His interview recounts the time when “the sky was black with smoke&#34; and the workers in the Harbor suffered “more than a material damage”.  Weatherwax frequently visits the memorial to get his story out to the hundreds of people that visit each year.  </p>
